The Spirit Led Life – Live by Faith – Part 4

Faith is the currency of revelation. Expect God to speak. Believe that He wants to. Then thank Him in advance for what He’ll show you.

When God speaks, it’s never just to inform us, there is always a bigger purpose. His voice always calls us to a response. But let’s be honest obedience isn’t always easy.

Sometimes we want the clarity of God’s voice without the cost of following it. We pray, “Lord, speak to me,” but when He does, His direction stretches us, challenges us, or takes us beyond what’s comfortable. Boy do we love comfort.

The truth is, hearing God is only half the miracle. The other half is responding with faith.

Faith Starts Where Comfort Ends

Years ago, my husband and I were praying about a major decision, one that didn’t make sense on paper. We felt the Lord nudging us to leave an amazing pastoral position and step into missions work overseas. The idea was thrilling and terrifying at the same time.

We prayed, fasted, and sought wise counsel, and every confirmation pointed the same way. Still, fear lingered. The decision meant enormous change with learning a new culture, leaving family, embracing unfamiliar roles, and living with less financial security.

When we finally stepped out, it was both messy and miraculous. The transition was hard but God calls us to hard things sometimes and it reminded me that obedience matters and it reallly doesn’t matter how I feel as I step out in faith.

The Test of Trust

Obedience often comes with uncertainty. Abraham was told to “go to the land I will show you.” Notice, God didn’t hand him a map, just a promise.

That’s how faith works. God rarely gives you all the details upfront. He gives you just enough light for the next step.

There have been many seasons in my life where I’ve wished for full clarity, but I’ve discovered that if I had it, I wouldn’t need faith. And without faith, we can’t please God (Hebrews 11:6).

Obedience is trust in motion. It’s choosing to believe that even when the path ahead feels uncertain, the One who called you is faithful.

Delayed Obedience Is Disobedience

I remember once feeling prompted to call someone who had left our church under painful circumstances. My first thought was, “I’ll do it later.” I told myself I needed the “right timing.” But deep down, I knew that hesitation wasn’t wisdom it was fear.

For two days, I ignored the nudge. Then my phone rang. It was the lady God has asked me to call. She immediately began to cry as she was going through a very difficult time. I realized I could have given her a God moment if I responded when He prompted me to.

That call reminded me: when we delay obedience, we risk missing divine moments. God’s timing is perfect, and sometimes your obedience is the very answer to someone else’s prayer.

When It Doesn’t Make Sense

There will be times when what God asks of you doesn’t make sense in the natural.

Think of Peter in Luke 5. He’d been fishing all night with nothing to show for it. Then Jesus said, “Put out into deep water and let down the nets for a catch.” Peter could have argued he was the experienced fisherman. But instead, he said, “Because You say so, I will.”

That’s the heart of obedience. “Because You say so.” Not because it’s logical, convenient, or safe but because it’s You.

And the result? The nets were filled to breaking.

I’ve found that when God asks me to do something that doesn’t make sense, it’s often because He’s about to do something that won’t make sense in the best possible way

Obedience and the Overflow

Obedience doesn’t just bless you it blesses others.

When Noah built the ark, it wasn’t just about his faith; it was about preserving a generation. When Mary said yes to the angel, her obedience ushered in the Savior of the world.

You may never know the full impact of your obedience on this side of eternity, but Heaven does. Every “yes” to God ripples beyond what you can see.

Walking in Step with the Spirit

Galatians 5:25 says, “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” That verse paints a beautiful picture walking closely enough with God that His rhythm becomes yours.

Some days, that means moving forward in bold faith. Other days, it means waiting when everything in you wants to rush. Either way, obedience is the rhythm of relationship.

And here’s the good news you don’t have to get it perfect. God isn’t grading your performance; He’s guiding your heart. Every time you take a step toward His will, you’re growing in intimacy with Him.

The Joy on the Other Side

Every act of obedience comes with a story of joy on the other side. It may not happen immediately, but it will happen.

There’s joy in seeing a life transformed.
Joy in watching God provide in ways you couldn’t imagine.
Joy in realizing that the God who called you never left you to figure it out alone.

If you’re standing on the edge of a decision today unsure whether to take the step God’s been nudging you toward remember this: you don’t need all the answers to say yes. You just need faith that the One who speaks is faithful.

Obedience may start as a risk, but it always ends as a revelation.

So, listen for His voice. Say yes, even when it stretches you. And watch what God will do with a life that’s fully surrendered.

Because on the other side of obedience, there’s always blessing.
